Sergey Kovalev pushed his challenger Jean Pascal as tensions boiled over ahead of their world title clash in Montreal.
A longstanding issue with Pascal has been his stamina, which against a fighter of Kovalev’s marauding ability could be a recipe for disaster.WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (26-0-1, 23 KO) wants one man in the ring most of all, and that’s WBC champion Adonis Stevenson. On Saturday, he will have to settle for former WBC titleholder Jean Pascal (29-2-1, 17 KO).
Pascal will need to start fast to prevent the Russian from establishing a rhythm, but by doing that he will expend energy at a far quicker rate. ON Saturday March 14, Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev will defend his WBO, WBA and IBF light-heavyweight titles against Jean Pascal at the Centre Belle in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
“This year will be more big fights,” said Kovalev, who got into a brief scuffle with Pascal during the staredown at Wednesday’s final news conference. “I am starting with a very big fight with Jean Pascal.”
